Along with the proposed Level II budget cuts, Manteca Unified’s board of trustees will recognize winners of the recent Spelling Bee tonight.

Included is Jonelle Mungcal, an eighth-grade student at Great Valley School. She took first place in last month’s San Joaquin County Office of Education Spelling Bee finals of the Junior High Division and, this spring, will represent the county in the state competition.

Mungcal along with Mia Holbrook (Walter E. Woodward) and Voungsa Pok (New Haven) emerged as the top spellers in the district’s 7-9 Division.

Terry Ton (George Komure), Olivia Higby (Nile Garden) and Brenai Radford (Joshua Cowell) were Manteca Unified’s top finishers in the 4-6 Division.

Other agenda items include:

• The board could consider approving short-term classified employees for specified positions and times.

• Trustees will look into the process of selecting the next superintendent. Since Cathy Nichols-Washer’s departure prior to start of this school year, Jason Messer, assistant superintendent of educational services, has served as the acting superintendent.

The open session begins at 7 p.m. on the first floor of the new administrative office board room, 2901 E. Louise Ave.
