Agriculture students of the Manteca Unified School District are gearing up for the San Joaquin County Fair.

As a way of preparing for this big event, they’ll take part in Saturday’s 2011 Fair Pre-Show at the school farm located directly behind the MUSD office complex, 2271 W. Louise Ave., beginning at 9 a.m.

The SJC Fair is scheduled from June 15 through 19.

AgVenture coordinator Janet Dyk is helping to organize Pre-Show.

“The kids have been working every day (at the school farm) just to get ready for this event,” she said.

These are Future Farmers of America students representing Manteca High, Sierra High, East Union High, Weston Ranch High and Lathrop High.

They’ll get an idea as to how their livestock and other ag-related projects rate with the judges.

Those attending can also tour the new facilities at the school farm or enjoy the tri-tip barbecue from Fagundes Meats.

The schedule for the animal judging is as follows:

• Rabbit show, 9:50 to 10:10 a.m.

• Turkey and chicken showmanship, 10:15 to 10:35 a.m.

• Sheep and market sheep show, 10:40 to 11:30 a.m.

• Market goat show, 11:35 to 11:55 a.m.
