LATHROP – Farhat Khairzadah’s list of accomplishments is impressive.

For one, the Mossdale School 8th grade student finished her last two years of elementary school with perfect grades – one of four students bestowed the title of Valedictorian Wednesday night at the annual promotion ceremony for pulling off such a feat.

She received special recognition from her teachers and appears to be on an impressive trajectory.

But it was her perspective revealed in her student speech that revealed the true character of a young woman who isn’t even yet a high school student – somebody that’s both grounded and ready and able to take on the world.

“There’s a big world out there – bigger than the prom queen and bigger than the quarterback,” she said. “Find out who you are and be happy with it.”

It wasn’t something that he wouldn’t have been able to get away with on stage or after fellow student Manuel Garcia Jr. formally welcomed parents, family members, friends or distinguished guests, but it was something that was both called for and descriptive given his surroundings.
