Five dollars can still go a long way these days. It can even buy you a designer Michael Kors purse and wallet which could set you back up to $700, maybe more, at the store.

How can you finagle – in a playful way – a brand new, still in plastic wrappers – gray or blue Michael Kors purse and wallet set for just one Abraham Lincoln bill? By taking part in a fifth-grade Science Camp fund-raiser at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School being conducted by the students’ parents. Simply buy a ticket or two, maybe more if you’re feeling generous or lucky, for the drawing to be held on Friday, Dec. 13. You can buy a ticket for either the gray or blue purse set.

Both are new with their tags still on. The retail value for each purse is $594. They can be viewed at the school office during business hours. While there, you can also pick up a raffle ticket. Parents Dawn McElrath and Charlene Martin had the Michael Kors raffle prizes on display at the school’s annual holiday salad luncheon and crafts sale recently where they also sold some tickets. Odds of winning either purse are good since the number of tickets being sold is limited.

The fifth graders will be going to Science Camp – now called Outdoor Education – in January. The cost for the five-day field trip to La Honda near Half Moon Bay is $285 per student. Parents hold various fund-raisers, such as the Michael Kors drawing, to help defray or lower the costs for the students.

Tickets will be sold until Friday, Dec. 13, when the drawing for each of the two purses will be held at the school.

The Science Camp field trip will be particularly exciting for the St. Anthony’s students this school year because they will be going to the San Joaquin County Outdoor School along with fifth graders from the other Catholic schools from Stockton and Tracy, said Principal Mary Lou Hoffman.

The students will leave Monday morning and return home Friday afternoon.

“It’s such a wonderful experience,” she said, adding her own kids really liked it especially the night hikes.

The students will have five days of outdoor education fun, adventure, and learning. They will leave on Monday morning and return home Friday afternoon.

You can look at the Michael Kors purses and purchase tickets during business hours at St. Anthony’s School, 323 N. Fremont Ave, between East North and Sutter streets. For more information, call Dawn at (209) 481-2448 or Heather at (209) 321-4908.
