Moore, Teicheira get 4 more years

Two members of the Manteca Unified Board of Trustees whose terms are ending at the end of the year will not be going through the election process. They will be automatically appointed for another four years on the board.

There will be no pounding of the pavements seeking votes as far as Nancy Teicheira of Trustee 4 and Evelyn Moore of Area 5 are concerned. Unlike Board President Don Scholl and Trustee Manuel Medeiros of Area 2, Teicheira and Moore are not facing any contenders in the November 4 elections. No one has filed papers with the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters challenging them in their respective areas.

Scholl is being challenged by Alexander Bronson, a 21-year-old education from Manteca. Hoping to unseat Medeiros who is running for a fifth term on the board is Ashley Drain of Weston Ranch. Drain also describes herself as an educator in papers she filed with the Registrar of Voters.

Appointment in lieu of election happens if “there’s the same number or less number (of candidates) to be voted for,” explained Bassem Nakhla of the Registrar of Voters. In the case of Teicheira and Moore, they will retain their seats on the board “as if they were elected,” he said.

Moore will be serving her fifth term of office. She has been on the board longer than any of the six trustees. But Teicheira is not far behind Moore with her next appointment becoming her fourth term of office.
