New interim president for MJC

MODESTO — The Yosemite Community College District (YCCD) Board of Trustees on Monday announced Mary E. Retterer, as the new Modesto Junior College (MJC) Interim President for a 5-month term effective Jan. 30.

Retterer will replace MJC’s current Interim President Larry Calderon, whose contract term lasts through Jan. 31.  The vote for Retterer was unanimous of the trustees present (5-0). 

Retterer has served four institutions as a college president or superintendent since 1995.  Her most recent presidency was at Cerro Coso Community College in Ridgecrest, CA, where she served from 2006-2010, and retired in 2010.  She also was the superintendent/president of Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District from 2004-2006; president of Pima Community College, East Campus in Tucson, Arizona from 1998-2004; and president of Ridgewater College, a community and technical college in Willmar and Hutchinson, Minnesota from 1995-1998. 

Prior to her presidencies and other leadership roles in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, Retterer was chair and faculty member for over 15 years in the San Bernardino Community College District.

Retterer received her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Texas, Austin (1993), MBA from CSU San Bernardino (1980) and BA in Administration from CSU San Bernardino (1977).  She also is a product of community colleges, earning an AA at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, California.
