ROUNDUP: Ripon baseball rolls past Orestimba to take TVL series

Hunter Weber ended a productive week for the Ripon baseball team on Friday, as the Indians capped a two-game sweep of Orestimba with a 10-1 road win.

Weber went 3 for 4 with two doubles, two steals, three runs and two RBIs in the Trans Valley League tilt, two days after striking out nine in a five-inning no-hitter against the Warriors (2-6, 8-13 overall).

Jack Haines contributed a 4-for-4 effort with two steals and a run scored in Ripon’s 15-hit barrage. Jack Peters finished 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI.

Fabian Nuno drove in four runs, finishing 2 for 4 with a double. The junior was also the winning pitcher, striking out five while scattering three hits and two walks over five innings. Frank Carter-Castro contributed to the combined five-hitter with two strikeouts in two innings.

The Indians (5-3, 13-9) have a tough closing stretch to the regular season coming up starting with a home-and-home series with second-place Escalon next week.

Patterson 6, Sierra 1

Sierra (3-12, 10-15 overall) dropped the Valley Oak League rubber game on the road.

Patterson (2-13, 8-17) had solid pitching outings from underclassmen Trevor Green (five innings, unearned run, two walks, four strikeouts) and Jacob Pierce (two innings, two hits, strikeout).

The Timberwolves scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning, when John Thomson knocked in Ryan Reyes.

Sierra closes league play next week with a three-game series starting at home against Oakdale.

COED TENNIS

Ripon 5, Orestimba 4

The Indians (7-5) avenged one of their TVL losses Friday at the Ripon Community Center while staying in the mix for a top-three finish and Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth.

Two three-set wins helped push Ripon over the top.

Brookelyn Betschart came through with the 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Mirella Fregoso in the No. 1 girls singles match. At No. 2 girls doubles, Abby Douglas and Molly Berger outlasted Samantha Aguilar and Abigail Layne, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Ripon also got results from No. 1 doubles Max Ferral and Emilio Machado-Perez (6-3, 6-3), No. 1 girls doubles Alyssa Lan and Sophie Douglas (6-4, 6-3), and mixed doubles Santiago Hernandez and Emiley Wang (6-0, 6-1).

Orestimba, which downed the Indians 7-2 in their first matchup, dropped to 6-5.

BOYS GOLF

Western Athletic Conference

Brayden Beckmann and Raphael Iniguez carded an 81 and 82 to lead Lathrop during a blustery Thursday afternoon at Manteca Park Golf Course.

The Spartans finished in fourth place as a team with a 471 in the fifth WAC tournament of the season.

The 10-over-par 82 is a personal best score for Iniguez. Bryce Rebeiro also shot an all-time personal best with a 90. Jasjeet Batthal added a 99, and Justin Castillo had a 119.
