RIPON – Third-grade students will again have the tools to assist and expand their vocabulary.

Thanks to the Ripon Rotary Club, youngsters received the hard-covered Macmillan dictionaries for the fourth straight year.

“This is one of our favorite community projects,” Rotarian Stephanie Hobbs said on Thursday. “This morning, we went class to class, calling each third-grade student by name.”

Included were youngsters from both Ripon Unified and Ripon Christian.

“The looks on their faces was priceless – especially their reaction when they were told dictionaries had their names in them and they (could) take it home,” Hobbs added.

Prior to distribution, Rotarians placed stickers in each of the dictionaries with the four-way test.

“We (Rotarians) consider everything we say and do, keeping those four tests as our ethical standards,” said Hobbs.

All told, she indicated that 288 dictionaries were donated for this community project.

Fundraisers consisted of the Ripon Rotary Adult Spelling Bee and the March 30 Poker /Bingo.

Organizers are making plans for the upcoming Poker / Bingo event, with hopes of another strong turnout.
