El Concilio is having an open house Thursday at its Manteca site, 1620 W. Yosemite Ave. Suite #1.

The Council for the Spanish speaking is inviting folks to enjoy refreshments and hors d’oeuvres from 3 to 5 p.m.

Guests will also have a chance to learn more about El Concilio’s programs and services offered in San Joaquin County.

Included is the CalWorks program, which provides temporary financial assistance and employment opportunities to families with minor children and income along with property below the state’s maximum limits for families of such size.

El Concilio is committed in providing the best services possible to the community via counseling, referrals, and education.

Other services consist of mental health; the rural home visiting programs; Parents as Teachers; child development / preschool program; health care education advocacy; first offenders DUI program; legal services for seniors and caregivers; domestic violence; citizenship classes; leap program civic engagement; financial literacy / foreclosure counseling; and immigration services.

For 43 years, El Concilio has developed relationships throughout the San Joaquin Valley.

The organization is helped out by a $10,000 grant from the Catholic Diocese to aid migrant workers, in particular, those with immigration and social welfare issues.

But it’s the trust of people along with the confidence that has sustained El Concilio throughout the years.
