A 19-year-old Manteca man was gunned down outside the Straw Hat Pizza Parlor in the 1200 block of North Main Street at about 9 p.m. Saturday.
Manteca Police officers initially responded to the restaurant for a “pending fight” about half an hour earlier. Once police arrived on the scene, they witnessed a number of subjects watching the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) on TV inside. Officers walked through the restaurant and located the reporting party who was having problems with some of the subjects in the restaurant. He told officers he would leave the premises while they were still in the restaurant.
Police remained inside the pizza parlor until they felt the incident had been resolved.
Shortly after 9 p.m. the officers responded back to the restaurant to a report of shots fired. When they arrived they found the 19-year-old outside the building suffering from the fatal gunshots. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Manteca officers were seen conducting their investigation at the pizza parlor until just before dawn.
Police Chief Nick Obligacion noted that detectives are actively working the case since it occurred Saturday night. He added that the incident appears to have been gang-related and the department’s Gang Unit is assisting in the investigation. Detective Steve Schluer is the lead investigator. Anyone with information or who witnessed the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective Schluer at 209.456.8210 or email sschluer@ci.manteca.ca.us.
