Fire losses top $130K at home

An early Friday morning fire caused $130,000 in damages to a Central Manteca home.

Twenty-two firefighters from the City of Manteca, Lathrop Manteca Fire District, and Ripon Fire Department battled the blaze at 410 Orange Court off Alameda Street between Powers Avenue and Fremont Avenue.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:22 a.m. The garage was fully involved when they arrived. The fire burned with such intensity the roof of the garage collapsed prior to firefighters getting the blaze under control 50 minutes later. There was smoke damage throughout the home from the fire that was contained to the garage and attic. The fire at one time threatened the home to the east but firefighters were able to hold their ground.

One of the firefighters was bitten by a dog that was protecting its newborn litter. The mother and her puppies were pulled from a smoke filled bedroom and all are doing fine.

The structural damage was pegged at $80,000 while the content loss was estimated at $50,000.
