Get ready for the invasion of the food trucks.
Sixteen food trucks are participating in the Manteca’s first Food Truck Mania this Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Woodward Park.
“We expanded the time due to the heavy response we are getting on Facebook,” noted Brandy Clark, recreation supervisor with the Manteca Parks & Recreation Department.
The trucks will line the turnaround adjacent to the group picnic area. There will be bounce houses and other family activities while Jimmy Ashley will provide live entertainment.
Clark said families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs as well as Frisbees and such to enjoy a low-key time of food and fun.
The event is being coordinated by SactoMoFo (Sacramento Mobile Food). Participating food trucks are  A Moveable Feast, Bacon Mania, Costa’s Finest Kettle Corn, Cowtown Creamery, Dog Town, Drewski’s, Gameday Grill, Green Papaya, Hefty Gyros, La Mex Taqueria, Mamas and the Tapas, Smokers Wild BBQ, Smokin’ Hot Pizza, Sweet Spot, Local Kline Shaved Ice, and Go Falafel.
Clark said organizers are expecting a fairly large turnout.
“The first food truck mania they had in Lodi attracted 2,500 people,” she said.
SactoMoFo had just five food trucks at that event resulting in long lines. They have more than tripled the offerings from their association to make sure the first Manteca event leaves a good taste in people’s mouths in terms of being able to have a wider selection plus being able to obtain food quicker.
Clark advised those attending to bring cash.
“Some of the food trucks take credit cards (and debit cards) but many don’t,” she said.
The city opted to offer the event as a way to encourage more use of city parks. It is being held on a Sunday so people winding down their weekend can relax with their families.
Future Food Truck Mania events are planned for the second Sunday of each month through October under the auspices of the Manteca Parks and Recreation Department.
