Hampton hosts black tie inauguration celebration

Terry Pierce had hoped to be in the nation’s capital to witness the history-in-the-making event of President Barrack Obama again taking the oath of office.

Instead, the general manager of the Hampton Inn and Suites, 1461 Bass Pro Drive in Manteca, will play host to a bipartisan, black-tie inauguration celebration on Monday, from 6 to 9 p.m. inside the hotel lobby.

“We’re expecting 75 people (from throughout the state) for this big event,” he said on Tuesday.

Pierce noted that he chose to host the event for those who shared the same sentiment to be in Washington, D.C., but were unable to attend.

He added that this day has other significance.

“An African-American President of the U.S. is taking the oath of office for a second term on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, another monumental event in history,” Pierce said.

He came to Manteca via Atlanta to open the Hampton Inn nearly three years ago.

“It was a big change for me,” Pierce said. “But the locals really reached out and were quite welcoming.”

So it was a no-brainer for him to host this first-ever celebration to commemorate the President Obama inauguration.

“My goal was to sponsor an event like this in Manteca,” said Pierce, who is expecting dignitaries from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno, and Sacramento, to name a few.
