About a dozen or so people took to the ice on a sunny Wednesday late December afternoon at Dell’Osso Family Farms.
Tyler, who’s no stranger to the rink – he’s a recreation hockey player out of Pleasanton – was there, teaching his 7-year-old niece Kylie learn how to ice skate.
“It’s kind of hot for this time of the year,” said Tyler, who was visiting family in Tracy. “So the ice is a little wet right now.”
But that’s part of the caveat of outdoor ice skating – the experience is affected by weather conditions.
Temperatures were at a comfortable 55 degrees on this day, attracting folks from all over to the admission-free Holidays on the Farm.
Another Tracy resident, Susan, brought her 14-year-old daughter Katrina and a couple of her friends to the ice rink.
“This is our third straight year coming here,” she said. “My daughter and her friends enjoying (ice skating) – they’re still learning but are getting better.”
Ice skating is open to people of all ages. A waiver is required for all while minors are required to have the consent of a parent or guardian.
The Monday through Thursday rates are as followed – $12 with skate rentals / $10 without skates (age 8 and up), $10 with skates / $8 without (age 7 and under), and $10 with skates / $8 without (those with strollers).
The Friday through Sunday rates go up to $14 with skate rentals / $12 without (age 8 and up), and $12 with skates / $10 without (age 7 and under).
Holidays on the Farm concludes on Monday, Jan. 2.
Other activities include snow tubing, zip lining, Dell’Osso Express Train, and a play area with plenty of rides.
