Four Manteca Unified Board of Education members will be sworn in at the trustees’ meeting in December by Tony J. Agbayani, Jr., a San Joaquin County Superior Court judge.

Evelyn Moore of Trustee Area 5, Nancy Teicheira of Area 4, Ashley Drain of Area 6, and Alexander Bronson of Area 2 will take their oath office at the start of the open portion of the meeting which will begin at 7 p.m.

It is not mandatory for the district to have a guest conduct the swearing-in ceremony, but it has done so with the Manteca judge in past years just to make the event special. Besides being a Superior Court judge, Agbayani is also a member of the faculty of Humphrey’s College Laurence Drivon School of Law.

Moore is the longest-serving member of the board, with Teicheira not too far behind. This is Moore’s sixth term; Teicheira on her fifth term. Both were automatically appointed to their old posts by virtue of the fact no other candidate challenged their re-election bids in the November elections for another four years of service.

Drain and Bronson will be the new faces on the dais, having bested the two incumbents who unsuccessfully defended their seats in the November elections. Bronson will be taking over Area 6 which, for the last four years, has been represented by Don Scholl who was president of the board for the second year in a row at the time of the elections. Drain is poised to take over Area 2 which has been represented by veteran board member Manuel Medeiros who had 16 years of service under his belt.

As is traditionally the case, the December meeting will be an organizational one. That’s when the newly seated board will take care of its “housekeeping” matters. That includes setting future meeting dates, forming committees and determining who they will be comprised of, and deciding who will serve as president and clerk of the board.

The trustees meet in the board room on the ground floor of the Manteca Unified School District located at 2271 West Louise Avenue, corner Airport Way. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m., with the public portion of the meeting starting at 7 p.m.
