LATHROP — Local authorities are searching for a 69-year-old Lathrop man that wandered away from his house on Monday and hasn’t been seen since.

Jarnail Singh – who immigrated to Lathrop only a month ago – was last at 2 p.m. Monday leaving the house of his son near Mossdale Landing Community Park. According to family spokesperson Kuldeep Suman, Singh doesn’t suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia, but the combination of new surroundings coupled with a waning memory might have contributed.

“The family is obviously upset right now. They’re really worried because it’s been two days and the weather’s not good outside right now,” Suman said. “We’re doing everything we can to find him, and we want people that may have seen him to contact us or the Lathrop Police.”

It’s been just over a month since Singh came to America from the Punjab region of India to live with family members. When he didn’t come home they contacted Lathrop Police Services who began searching the community – thinking that the unfamiliar territory might have confused him and he was simply lost.

A door-to-door search campaign was launched. So far nobody has recognized the man.

Lathrop Mayor Joseph “Chaka” Santos said he learned of the missing man from a local business owner late Tuesday night, and contacted the family Wednesday to help them in their search. He started by contacting media outlets and getting Singh’s photo out as quickly as possible.

“This isn’t a constituent or anything like that. It’s a resident and a neighbor and I’ve gotta do what I can to help the family,” Santos said. “We need to find this man as quickly as possible. It’s cold out outside and he needs to be with his family. “

Anybody that has seen Singh or knows of his whereabouts is encouraged to contact Lathrop Police Services at (209) 858-5551 or Shamsher Singh at (209) 247-3790.
