Bank robbery suspect released on $150K bail
crime

The Manteca Police Department has arrested the man they say is responsible for robbing the Well Fargo branch in Downtown Manteca earlier this month.

Cameron Juarez, 30, was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop on May 12 after detectives had identified him as the prime suspect in the bank robbery – arresting him as he left his house.

The robbery took place just after noon on May 4 when a man wearing a full-face covering walked into the bank and up to the teller and demanded cash. The suspect did not brandish a weapon, and police have said whether he was in possession of one at the time that he was arrested.

He fled the area on foot and when officers arrived for the robbery call, they scoured the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

A search warrant was issued for Juarez’ home and investigators found evidence further tying him to the robbery.

Juarez was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of second-degree burglary and was being on a $150,000 bond which he subsequently posted.

The Manteca Police Department had to issue a clarifying statement on its Facebook page after the uproar over Juarez’ release from custody upon meeting his bail obligation – politely reminding the public that bail is a constitutional right guaranteed by the 8th Amendment.

While bank robbery technically falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, local agencies like Manteca Police often investigate such crimes – especially if they aren’t linked to an established pattern of robberies.
