Theatre group staffing ‘Wizard of Oz’

Gabrielle Martin stars as Dorothy in the Cornerstone Community Theater Manteca production of The Wizard of Oz. The large cast also includes Madison Daly (Scarecrow), Raymond Martinez (Tin Man), Jacob Camper (Lion), and Megan Bos (Wicked Witch).

Gabrielle Martin has performed in many of the Cornerstone Community Theater productions over the years.

But for the Ripon High sophomore, The Wizard of Oz is her first time in a major role as Dorothy Gale from Kansas.

“I’m very thrilled about this play,” Martin said.

The production under the direction of Michealle Hoag — Bailey Dokoozlian as stage manager / assistant director, Emilie Reese serving as technical director, Kristin Scott as music director and Atlantah Flora handling the costumes — is based on the book by L. Frank Baum and music & lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.

Opening night is Friday at 7 o’clock at the church facility located at 17900 Comconex Rd., Manteca.

Saturday and Sunday will both have matinees (3 p.m.) and later showings (7 p.m.).

The Wizard of Oz is an impressive production, from the acting, costumes, set design, choreography and the singing performances.

The young cast also includes Madison Daly as Scarecrow, Raymond Martinez as the Tin Man, Jacob Camper as the Cowardly Lion, Faith Ozenbaugh as Glinda the Good Witch, Megan Bos as the Wicked Witch, Jeriah Marson as the Wizard of Oz.

Allie, who is the toy puddle belonging to Raymond and Isabella Martinez (Aunt Em), plays Dorothy’s dog Toto.

In addition, the Wizard of Oz features Munchkins including the Lollipop Guild and the Lullaby League along with Jitterbugs, Sour Apple Trees, Crows. Winged Monkeys, Ozians and an Emerald City doorman and guard, to name a few.

The cast has been rehearsing since July 8.
