In the first six months of its existence, the Lathrop Police Department issued 735 traffic citations, arrested 414 people – 126 for felony charges, 288 for misdemeanors, and 34 for driving under the influence – and took 29 firearms off the street.
They’ve been busy.
According to a report that was prepared for the Lathrop City Council to update the elected officials on the first six-month block of the agency’s operations, there were also 15,357 calls that were responded to during that time, and officers initiated 7,229 incidents from the date the agency took over through the end of the 2022.
The agency has also cleared more than 65 percent of the investigations that have been reported during the six-month span – closing 77 of the 106 cases that were assigned to the agency’s investigations division.
The presentation – intended to inform the council about the agency’s operations since it took control of law enforcement operations within Lathrop’s city limits at the end of June – also detailed the programs that have been rolled out since operations began.
In addition to initiating an animal services program – the city will be using its corporation yard as a temporary shelter facility and has currently partnered with Delta Humane Society until it is up and running – the agency has also implemented code enforcement, school resource officers, SWAT, K9 teams, a field training officer program, and a volunteer organization to support the department and the community.
The agency also has an in-house representative from the probation department.
With the city currently has a fleet of patrol cars on the streets, other job-specific vehicles are currently retrofitted to be used as well – including K9-specific vehicles, vehicles for the community service officer, community resource officer, and school resource officers, and vehicles that will be used for animal control.
Trailers and motorcycles are also being outfitted for deployment.
