The Manteca Civic Center will soon have the ability to charge six electric vehicles

The City Council when they meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. are being asked to authorize a $144,521 project for Kinsley-Horn to install three Level 3 direct current fast charging stations at the civic complex at 1001 W. Center St.

Each station will be able to charge vehicles.

The city received a federal grant of $150,000 to cover engineering and the construction.

Covering the overall cost requires a $19,434 local match from the city’s general fund.

The city was the first entity to have EV chargers for use by the public.

Two were put in place when the transit station was built in 2011 on Moffat Boulevard.

Last year, a third charger dedicated to a Manteca Transit van used for the dial-a-ride program was installed.

Last year saw a surge in public charging stations in Manteca.

A second was added to the Spreckels commercial development near Applebee’s and a Telsa Supercharging station.

Work also started in 2025 on the city’s third Tesla Supercharging station at Airport Way and Daniels Street near Sizzler.

The first Tesla Supercharger station was constructed near Bass Pro Shops.

Manteca Crossings at Atherton Drive and Airport Way opened with more than a dozen EV chargers.

Overall, there are eight public charging stations within the city that will accommodate multiple vehicles.
