Manteca has lost 112 people to date to COVID-19 illness

Manteca has gone without a COVID-19 related death for two weeks.

That said 4 of the 11 COVID-19 patients in ICUs throughout the county are Kaiser Foundation Hospital Manteca. There were no COVID patients in ICU at Doctors Hospital of Manteca as of Monday.

Overall COVID-19 hospitalizations are up 10 percent in the past seven days to 33 countywide. It is a far cry from December –January when it was over a hundred.

There have been 1,419 deaths in San Joaquin County since the pandemic started in mid-March 2020. Of those, 112 deaths have been in Manteca, 22 deaths in Ripon and 21 deaths in Lathrop.

Manteca Unified COVID-19 positive cases among 27,000 students and staff dropped to 6 as of May 28 — the lowest level since the district started tracking positive cases in December. All that tested positive were students.

The district ended its school year on Friday. It is now starting a fairly large summer session with in-person learning to help address learning loss that occurred during remote learning.

Manteca has 47.28 percent of its targeted adult population fully vaccinated and another 11.69 percent partially vaccinated.

Lathrop has 53.01 percent of 9,677 of its adults fully vaccinated with another 11.69 percent or 2,582 partially vaccinated.

Ripon is at 45.85 percent fully vaccinated with another 9.18 percent partially vaccinated.

All three cities are well ahead of the national trend as 41.2 percent of all targeted American adults have been vaccinated. In California, 43.0 percent of the adult population is now fully vaccinated.

There are currently 953 people in San Joaquin County that are positive for COVID. That does not necessarily mean they are sick or even are showing symptoms.

San Joaquin County has had 73,794 cases since the pandemic started in mid-March 2020 .

Health experts have estimated that 70 percent to 85 percent of a city’s population will need to be immune to reach herd immunity. However, that number is a moving target based on numerous factors.

It includes all Costco stores in the county including Manteca, the Ripon and Lathrop SaveMarts, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Safeway, and Walmart.

Modern Urgent Care in Manteca at 1630 W. Yosemite Ave., Suite A, offers shots seven days a week 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Heath care provider networks that typically deal with established patients include Golden Valley Health Centers, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter Health.
