Manteca Transit offers free rides to students

Manteca Transit buses pull into the Manteca Transit Center.

The first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 3, at Manteca Unified.

The City of Manteca announced that Manteca Transit will be offering free rides to local students on this day and throughout the school year.

Those in middle school (sixth through eighth grades) and high school will be able to take a fixed route at no cost.

“Fixed routes are available for students to ride six days a week, at any time during service hours, including non-school hours and weekend,” said the local school district Friday via social media (proudtobemusd on Facebook).

Students will be required to show their ID to the driver upon boarding.

This promotion is being funded through a grant from the California Department of Transportation under the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program – created to provide pay for transit agencies in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improve mobility.
