Manteca Soroptimists are staging an event March 2 designed to inspire girls to pursue their dream careers.

The “Dream It, Be It” program designed to empower young girls takes place Saturday, March 2, in the Manteca High School cafeteria. The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event is free and is open to girls in the sixth through ninth grade who wish to participate. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. For more information contact Mimi Harper at 209.665.5146. Girls and their parents/guardians can learn more and sign up for the program at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/dream-it-be-it-career-support-for-girls-tickets-53033025206

“Because we don’t expect that all girls will know what they want to do for the rest of their lives and we also know that plans change, the skills developed through the day can be applied to any goals the girls identify throughout their education and careers,” said President Barbara Brocchini. “The girls will also have the opportunity to speak with working women and perhaps arrange a mentorship with a woman whose career interests them.”

The event will cover discovering your dreams, exploring careers, creating achievable goals, rising above obstacles, turning failure into success, balancing your stress, and putting dreams into action.

Soroptimists expect 50 to 75 girls to attend. Among the speakers are an attorney, a pastor and a scientific technical engineer.

Pastor Lisa Brown will lead off with a 10-minute presentation followed by Stockton lawyer Kristi Barnard and Manteca Unified School District community outreach coordinator Victoria Brunn. They will be followed by a question and answer session.

The Manteca Panda Express restaurant is donating Chinese food for lunch.

The women’s service club members are encouraging the girls to always believe in themselves, to never give up or give in.  One noted that theme helped her when her spirits were low and she wanted to just shrug her shoulders.  Remember, she said, life is full of ups and downs and road blocks and obstacles but they are there only to make you stronger.
