STOCKTON – Robert Rickman is the new San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors chair.
“I want to thank my colleagues for their vote of trust and confidence in me to lead this Board,” Rickman said at Wednesday’s board meeting. “I look forward to working in collaboration with our county residents, our regional partners, as well as my fellow Board Members we tackle the many challenges before us in 2023.”
Rickman, whose term as supervisor runs through 2025, represents Ripon, rural south Manteca, Tracy, Mountain House , and Escalon on the Board of Supervisors.
Rickman is a former council member and mayor of Tracy
The third generation San Joaquin County resident is married and has two daughters.
Rickman graduated from Tracy High School in 1991. He attended Delta College and Sacramento State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. He graduated from Humphrey's School of Law in 2008 with a Juris Doctor degree.
Robert has served as an adjunct professor at ITT Technical Institute and served on the Criminal Justice Advisory Board at Humphrey's College.
While Rickman was Tracy’s mayor, he served on several committees, including the South County Fire Authority (Chair/Vice Chair), San Joaquin County Council of Governments (Chair/Vice Chair), City/Schools Liaison, San Joaquin Partnership, Tri-Valley-San Joaquin Valley Regional Traffic Authority and was an advisor for the Tracy High Bulldog Project and Kimball High Jaguar Project (Anti-Bullying). He is also a member of St. Bernard's Church and the ELKS Lodge.
For the better part of two decades, Rickman has been employed as a State Police Officer and Sergeant.
As 5th District Supervisor, Supervisor Rickman's stated priorities are to address the rising cost of living, develop common sense solutions for homelessness, reduce traffic congestion and expand infrastructure, expand economic development and opportunity, and ensure neighborhoods are safe.
The Chair presides over all meetings of the Board to maintain order and decorum, decide questions of procedure, and conduct the meetings as prescribed by Board rules and the laws of the State of California. The Chair is also tasked with deciding Board committee assignments for the year.
