Ripon Christian Schools will soon be getting a 13-foot-tall sign with an electronic message center.

What’s more, the new RC message board by CK Sign Services will be on an automatic timer, which will go out at 10 p.m. and back on by 6 a.m. so as not to disrupt the neighbors.

“Ripon High School has one, RC should have one,” said Charlie Gay of CK Signs.

The former Ripon City Councilman indicated at last week’s Ripon Planning Commission that the sign will be located directly in front of the middle school gymnasium, adjacent to Maple Avenue in a landscaped planter area.

“So far, we’ve heard no concerns from the neighbors,” said Planning Director Ken Zuidervaart.

Commissioners unanimously approved the project consisting of a conditional use permit, 5-0.

As far as the proposed design, they noted that the sign complies with the Ripon Municipal sign code and the message portion also meets all the necessary requirements.

The RC sign is similar to that of RHS.

“It’s a great way for advertising,” said Gay, who indicated that the school offers a variety of activities along with sporting events.

“RC has a beautiful auditorium for plays,” he added.
