Evelyn Tison and Laysha Macedo have plans beyond their college plans.

Respectively, they’re the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Ripon High Class of 2019, earning the top two academic spots based on their efforts in the classroom.

Tison, for starters, will be attending UC Davis in the fall, majoring in Biological Science with an eye on med school.

Macedo hopes to get into law school. She’ll be going to UCLA, where her field of study will be History. She’s the daughter of Hector and Rosario Macedo.

Macedo earned salutatorian with her 4.3 grade point average. At Ripon High, she was involved in Link Crew, California Scholastic Federation (four years, last two as vice president) and GSA.

As graduation approaches – the commencement exercises at RHS will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Stouffer Field – Macedo and Tison are both looking forward to addressing their fellow classmates, family, friends, teachers, administrators and special guests in attendance.

“We knew at the end of the first semester that we have to do a speech for graduation,” said Tison, who earned the honors of valedictorian thanks to her 4.4 GPA.

She’s the daughter of Carolyn and Nikko Tison.

Evelyn Tison arrived at RHS during her sophomore year, coming from Clovis located next to Fresno.

In her time at RHS, she was founding member of the Korean Culture Club and Dance Team, consisting of 20 to 30 members.

Tison, in addition, helped established the Yoga / Mindful Club at RHS.
