Ripon may buy $107K truss replacement for bike/pedestrian bridge

The Ripon City Council will have a special noon meeting today (Friday) to discuss repairs to the Stanislaus River Bike / Pedestrian Bridge.

Elected leaders will look to approve the purchase of a replacement pedestrian truss bridge segment from Contech Engineering Solutions in the amount of $107,565.

According to Public Works Director James Pease, the City is processing all associated expenses necessary for the replacement of the bridge segment via insurance provider.

Back in October, a large tree located on the Ripon side of the Stanislaus River fell, causing significant damage to the bike / pedestrian bridge, which has since been closed for safety reasons.

City staff along with the consulted structural engineer and multiple contractors have evaluated several different repair options, according to Pease, including temporary shoring to provide a temporary opening, permanent in-place restoration through use for heat treatment, and added structural reinforcement.

“After this evaluation process, the final recommendation from the structural engineer is to replace the damaged bridge segment,” he added.
