The Ripon Police Department reported a fairly quiet evening during this year’s Fourth of July celebration.
“There was not a lot of (reported) activity,” said police Chief Daniel Sauer during his staff report at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council meeting.
Police attended to 17 incidents, resulting in the issuing of one citation. “Our sergeant said it was a very good night overall,” Sauer noted.
He added that police were prepared to handle those in violation of the City of Ripon’s fireworks ordinance, which extended to owners, occupants, and others at or on the property of any illegal activities taking place.
“They were ready to be deployed,” said Sauer.
Not in use in Ripon were drones as in the larger cities. “Given the size of our city, (drones) are not needed,” Sauer said to elected leaders.
Safe and sane fireworks were OK for use among residents but only through midnight on Saturday, July 4.
Listed among the illegal fireworks were mortars, bottle rockets, firecrackers, or any type of aerial explosive.
As for the fines, the first conviction in Ripon was $250, with the second one within a 12-period costing up to $500.
