A license-plate reading camera helped Ripon Police identify a stolen vehicle on Friday and apprehend the person who was driving.
But they didn’t make it easy for officers.
According to the agency, units were notified 10:55 p.m. on Friday that a vehicle that was identified as stolen and wanted for evading police was picked up by the city’s LPR cameras. After a dispatcher found the vehicle on a city camera traveling eastbound on Main Street near Wilma Avenue – down the street from the Ripon Police Department – an officer spotted the vehicle near Locust Avenue.
Units attempted a traffic stop at the end of the road on Garrison Way, and the suspect vehicle came to a stop as officers attempted a high-risk felony car stop – only to take off again and ram a Ripon Police Department vehicle and flee the area.
Officers chased the suspect over to Doak Boulevard where the suspect collided with the roundabout at Vera Avenue before hitting a parked car and becoming incapacitated – sending the driver fleeing on foot. The passenger in the vehicle was immediately taken into custody and police established a perimeter and called for aerial support.
Eventually Stanislaus County’s Air 101 located the suspect in the backyard of a home on the 1100 block of Emily Lane where she was promptly taken into custody.
The driver, Jean Marie Tanguileg, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evasion, resisting arrest, driving without a license, and outstanding warrants.
While there was damage done to a Ripon Police patrol car and a civilian’s vehicle as a result of the pursuit, no officers or citizens were harmed during the event.
Tanguileg is currently being held on $490,000 bail and is due to appear in the Manteca branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court today at 1:30 p.m. to answer to her charges.
