Ripon reduces water use during March by 27% over 2013 usage

The City of Ripon reduced its water usage last month by 37 percent.

Director of Public Works James Pease made the announcement at Tuesday’s Ripon City Council.

He used the pre-drought groundwater water level numbers from March 2013 to make that baseline comparison.

Those numbers were 25-percent higher when compared to March 2023.

“It was one of those swing months – it all depends on the weather on how much water we’re using (during that time),” Pease noted.

Ripon is currently on three-day-a-week watering scheduled (effective March through October) just started, allowing folks living in homes with odd-numbered addresses being allowed to do outdoor watering on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Those with even-numbered addresses can do their watering on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

No watering is allowed between 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. or 48 hours following measurable rain fall.

In addition, Pease said that 27 people were warned for being in violation of the ordinance, with one assessed a penalty on being a water waster.
