Since the beginning of June, Juhitha Clemens and Addison Parker have been kept busy in Manteca Unified School District’s Summer Internship Program.

They’re among the 10 or so in the Industrial Technology Department, where work has consisted of cleaning, doing hardware updating along with device re-imaging for an estimated 6,000 digital devices.

“We were locked and loaded, and ready to go about week after the last day of school,” said Tech Support Analyst Kathy Cambra on Thursday.

She and fellow Tech Support Analyst Josh Bowers also serve as mentors for the Interns.

They welcomed their newcomers – the Summer Internship Program is open to all students in MUSD, said Coordinator of Community Outreach Lindsay Harris – including Clemens and Parker, on the second week of the summer break.

Both have been there since Day 1.

For the interns, it didn’t really matter much of their skill technology level – some did have backgrounds in robotics, coding and computer science.

“We would sometimes see something is a student that we thought might make (him or her) a hard worker or willing to learn,” said Cambra, who is in her 24th year at MUSD.

Clemens, for one, didn’t know much about working with computers at the outset but saw I.T. as a field with great opportunities. She’ll be entering her sophomore year at Sierra High when classes resume next month.

“I’ve learned a lot about re-imaging and doing updates on the (learning) devices,” she said of her summer job.

Students are paid in the Summer Internship Program., which is nearing its final week.

This is Clemens’ first-ever job. She’s enjoyed her opportunity of working with those in the Instructional Material Center at MUSD.

Parker graduated from Calla High in May and is looking forward to attending Delta College to study nursing.

“I was excited and nervous,” he said when he first received word of his selection to the Summer Internship Program.

Parker, who has some I.T. background, has also made most of his opportunity.

“I like it here – it’s chill,” he said.

Bowers, who has been in the I.T. Department for the past 16 years, is thankful for the efforts of the interns, who have more than held up their own in getting the learning devices cleaned, refreshed and ready for the upcoming school year.

“It’s a win-win for everyone, for MUSD and for the kids,” he added.
