Manteca Unified & teachers may have 3-year deal

A tentative agreement for a three-year contract for Manteca Unified teacher salaries for the current year as well as the 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 school years has been reached.
Details were not made available on Thursday.
The agreement is not a done deal, however. Representatives of the Manteca Educators and Association as well as the Manteca Unified School District will meet to review and sign the tentative agreement.
It then will be submitted to the MEA membership for a vote. If the membership approves the contract the next step would be a public hearing at a school board meeting for community input. At that meeting the school board would decide whether to approve the deal.
The current MEA contract expires May 26.
A three year deal that addresses pay hikes and possibly benefits would cover the most cantankerous issue involved in negotiations through mid-2020.
A statement issued Thursday by the school district noted, “Contract negotiations can be lengthy and complicated, MUSD would like to thank MEA and certificated staff for their patience and understanding through this hard process . . .  We continue to value and respect the negotiation process and appreciate everyone’s efforts to come to a successful conclusion.”
