The Manteca Youth Focus is staging the 2010 Manteca Scholarship Competition on Saturday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at Walter Woodward Elementary School located at 575 Tannehill Drive in Manteca.

There will be three age levels of competition.

Miss Manteca 2009 Amanda Rosas and Manteca City Ambassador 2009 Horst Bauer will pass the torch of leadership on to two new individuals as part of the 2010 Manteca Scholarship Competition.

One young man and four young women ages 16 to 21 have stepped forward to accept the honor and challenge of serving as Manteca City Ambassador 2010 and Miss Manteca 2010. They are also competing for their share in over $3,000 of scholarships to be awarded through the annual Scholarship Competition.

Sponsored by Manteca Youth Focus, contestants will have the opportunity to earn an educational scholarship for each of the top prizes as Miss Manteca and Manteca City Ambassador. The first alternate will also earn an scholarship and the opportunity to represent the annual Sunrise Kiwanis Pumpkin Fair, held the first weekend of October, as Miss Pumpkin Fair. The second alternate will also earn an educational scholarship and serve as Miss Winter Fest, representing the Manteca Twilight Holiday Parade.

Miss Teen Manteca 2009 Victoria Watson and Teen Manteca City Ambassador 2009 Dalton Harris will pass the torch of leadership on to one new individual as part of the 2010 Teen Manteca Scholarship Competition.

Three young women ages 13 to 15 have stepped forward to accept the honor and challenge of serving as Miss Teen Manteca 2010. They are also competing for their share in over $700 of scholarships to be awarded through the annual Scholarship Competition.

Sponsored by Manteca Youth Focus, contestants will have the opportunity to earn an educational scholarship for the top prize as Miss Teen Manteca. The first alternate will also earn a scholarship and the opportunity to represent the annual Sunrise Kiwanis Pumpkin Fair, held the first weekend of October, as Miss Teen Pumpkin Fair. The second alternate will also earn an educational scholarship and serve as Miss Teen Winter Fest, representing the Manteca Twilight Holiday Parade.

Miss Young Manteca 2009 Lauren Perez and Young Manteca City Ambassador 2009 Nicolas Perez will pass the torch of leadership on to two new individuals as part of the 2010 Young Manteca Scholarship Competition.

One young man and three young women ages 10 to 12 have stepped forward to accept the honor and challenge of serving as Young Manteca City Ambassador 2010 and Miss Young Manteca 2010. They are also competing for their share in over $300 of scholarships to be awarded through the annual Scholarship Competition.

Sponsored by Manteca Youth Focus, contestants will have the opportunity to earn an educational savings bond for each of the top prizes as Miss Young Manteca and Young Manteca City Ambassador. The first alternate will also earn an educational savings bond and the opportunity to represent the annual Sunrise Kiwanis Pumpkin Fair, held the first weekend of October, as Miss Young Pumpkin Fair. The second alternate will also earn an educational savings bond and serve as Miss Young Winter Fest, representing the Manteca Twilight Holiday Parade.

These outstanding young individuals will be featured in the Community Advocacy Speech Competition, in which they will present a community service project to be carried out in the coming year. They will also share their unique personal talents in the Stage Arts phase of Competition. Each contestant will also be challenged to speak “off-the-cuff” in the Press Interview phase of competition.
Last month the contestants were scored in an additional 3 phases of competition including Community Service Résumé, Scholastic Achievement, and Personality and Event Interview.

Under the direction of Brandy Wamsat, with co-directors Amber Dixon, a former Miss Manteca 2000 and Miss California State 2001, and Alanna Robins who also serves as the Entertainment director, the theme of the competition show is “Over the Rainbow” featuring the 2010 contestants with entertainment by the Manteca Youth Focus Entertainers and Alumni. The hosts for this event will be former Miss Manteca 2007 Emma Henry and former Manteca City Ambassador 2004 and California State Ambassador 2006, Matt Vaughan.

There are also awards available in the areas of Community Service, Scholastic Achievement, Stage Arts and Most Inspirational. The audience will get to have their “say” by selecting the “People’s Choice Award.”
