SOAPS FIND HOME ON OPRAH NETWORK: NEW YORK (AP) — “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” are returning to TV. Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network says it’s acquired the first 40 episodes of the daytime dramas’ revival on The Online Network. They’ll air Monday through Thursday for a 10-week period beginning July 15. In a statement Wednesday, OWN President Erik Logan said: “These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base.” When the two soaps were canceled by ABC in 2011, fans begged Winfrey to give them a second life on OWN. She responded by releasing a video message on her website saying she couldn’t save the shows because “there just are not enough people who are home in the daytime to watch them.”

‘LAVERNE & SHIRLEY’ STARS REUNITE: LOS ANGELES (AP) — The leading ladies of “Laverne & Shirley” are reuniting. Nickelodeon said Wednesday that Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams will guest star in an episode of its new sitcom “Sam & Cat.” The actresses starred as 1950s and ‘60s pals and roommates Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney, workers in a Milwaukee brewery. The sitcom aired from 1976 to 1983 on ABC. “Sam & Cat” features Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande as friends who start a baby-sitting business. Nickelodeon says Marshall and Williams will start filming on Wednesday. They play characters involved in a decades-old feud, tweaking the long-ago rumors of a “Laverne & Shirley” rivalry. “Sam & Cat” creator Dan Schneider says it was an honor to write for what he called TV’s” funniest female roommates” ever.

LIZ TAYLOR DRESS SELLS FOR $188K: LONDON (AP) — The gown that an 18-year-old Elizabeth Taylor wore for her first wedding to hotel heir Conrad “Nicky” Hilton Jr. has fetched 121,875 pounds ($187,931) at a London auction. Christie’s director Nicolette Tomkinson said Wednesday’s sale price, more than double the highest estimate, reflected the gown’s significance in the history of film and fashion. Taylor wore the cream-colored, seed pearl-encrusted satin dress — complete with waist-cinching built-in corset — to the first of her eight weddings in May 1950. Hundreds of guests including Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire turned up, and studio MGM boasted that “more stars than there are in heaven” attended. Taylor and Hilton divorced months later, and the actress went on to wed seven more times. She died in 2011, aged 79.

DEVO DRUMMER DIES OF CANCER: Alan Myers, the former longtime drummer for the band Devo, best known for “Whip It,” has died after a battle with brain cancer. He was 58. Myers died Monday in Los Angeles, where he lived, Devo spokesman Michael Pilmer said Wednesday. Myers was the band’s drummer from 1976 to 1985 during Devo’s heyday. The group was formed in Akron, Ohio, in the early 1970s by Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale, and introduced themselves to the world in 1977 by making a spastic version of the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction.” Casale told The Associated Press on Wednesday that without Myers, Devo never would have reached the heights it did, calling him the best drummer he has ever played with.

CNN BRINGING ‘CROSSFIRE’ BACK: NEW YORK (AP) — CNN said Wednesday that it is bringing the political debate show “Crossfire” back on the air this fall with Newt Gingrich as one of the combatants. The former House speaker and Republican presidential candidate will be one of the four regular hosts of the program, taking the conservative side along with commentator S.E. Cupp of The Blaze. Stephanie Cutter, a former campaign spokeswoman for President Barack Obama, and Van Jones, a Yale-educated attorney and advocate for green projects, will speak from the left. “It just feels like the right time for ‘Crossfire’ to be coming back,” said Sam Feist, CNN’s senior vice president and Washington bureau chief. The show will air weekdays but no time slot has been set.

JOPLIN PRODUCTION HEADS TO BROADWAY: NEW YORK (AP) — The boozy, bluesy, hot-mama howl of Janis Joplin is heading to Broadway. Producers said Wednesday that the musical “A Night With Janis Joplin” starring Mary Bridget Davies as the iconic singer will start previews at the Lyceum Theatre on Sept. 20. The show, written and directed by Randy Johnson, has a live onstage band and features Joplin hits and classic songs such as “Piece of My Heart,” ‘‘Mercedes Benz,” ‘‘Me and Bobby McGee,” ‘‘Ball and Chain” and “Summertime.”
