Several customers of the San Joaquin Irrigation District in southwest Manteca did not receive their water allocations on the first day water was to be delivered for the 2015 season. And it wasn’t because of the drought.
The culprit was an underground pipe along Woodward Avenue just west of South Union Road that burst on Saturday, prompting SSJID personnel to call the customers who were affected by the unexpected incident. Customers were told the water will be delivered to their properties on Monday while repairs are being done on the broken infrastructure.
Only the segment of the area covered by this irrigation pipeline was affected. It is not known how many properties were affected since the accident happened on a weekend and the SSJID office was closed.
SSJID, as a rule, inspects all of its underground delivery pipes during the winter.
