It will be more than an afternoon of classical music when the Manteca Kindred Arts Concert Association continues its 25th anniversary celebration on Sunday, March 18.
Featured to perform that afternoon is the Stanford Woodwind Quintet. The program, the fifth concert of the 2011-12 series, will begin at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, corner of North Powers Avenue and East North Street. At the reception following the concert, Kindred Arts will hold its 10th annual Great Options drawing in the church’s Social Hall. This is the non-profit organization’s only major fund-raiser during the year. All proceeds make it possible for Kindred Arts to bring performing artists of international and national caliber to Manteca. Each concert season features four, sometimes five, performances.
In honor of the Kindred Arts’ silver anniversary, the association scheduled five performances for the 2011-12 concert season. One of America’s most distinguished ensembles, the Stanford Woodwind Quintet is an example of the fine artists that the association has consistently offered to the public every year. The musicians who make up this group are all professors at Stanford University and perform in the San Francisco opera and Ballet Orchestras. They are also former members of San Francisco, Los Angeles and other major orchestras.
The quintet’s concert program will include many well-known works by composers such as Darius Milhaud, Eric Ewazen, Antonio Vivaldi, Arturo Marquez, and Jacques Ibert.
At the reception following the program, guests will have an opportunity to show their support for Kindred Arts and bring home one or more of the many donated items offered in the drawing at the same time.
“We got some really nice things,” Kindred Arts board member Carolyn Tatum said of the options that include tickets for the 2012-2013 concert season, gourmet dining, a night’s stay in “one of the most charming (bed and breakfast) inns” in the Gold Country, a special evening out with dinner and theater tickets to a performance at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, tickets to the Stockton Civic Theater’s 61st season, and a ballerina-style aquamarine ring from New York Diamonds. It’s called a ballerina ring because the aquamarine gem is surrounded by diamonds, jewelry store owner Patty Reece explained.
The fund-raiser is called a “great options” drawing because ticket holders will have the choice of placing their tickets to any of the donated items which will be on display at the reception. The drawing will be held during that time.
Tickets for the drawing will be on sale the day of the concert. Guests will be able to purchase tickets “until the last minute” before the drawing, Tatum said. One does not need to be present to win.
Tickets are $5 apiece or 10 for $45.
