Ripon VFW raising funds for new roof

Ripon’s veterans need a new roof on their Post 1051 home – the leaky one just won’t do any longer.
Buckets were in order in the hallway of the Ripon VFW hall last winter to catch rain coming from their leaking roof on their building on West Ripon Road at Olive Avenue.  They were planning two fundraisers in hopes of raising enough money to make that happen.
Last week was their first with a Hawaiian Barbecue theme but other events in Ripon caused too much competition for the veterans to raise the needed cash and it became something of a disappointment for the men and women  who have served in the military.
Now a Western Days Barbecue is planned for Aug.19 beginning at 6 p.m. with activities for the whole family – children included with everyone being asked to wear western attire.
Tickets can be purchased at the post in the near future, with veterans hoping the community will come together to support their post in their time of need.
