RIO VISTA — When his reindeer are resting, St. Nick uses clean, reliable electric railways to get around.

The season’s final Meet Santa at the Western Railway Museum is on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m.

Reigning Miss Solano 2011 Julianna Johnson will visit the Western Railway Museum on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to help Santa hand out candy canes, pose for photos, and collect Christmas wishes.

In addition, the Museum Store is having a Holiday Sale: 10% off on selected items in every department: books, DVD’s, clothing, Thomas the Tank Engine, and much more. Museum members get an extra 10% off, for a 20% total discount. The sale ends Sunday, Dec. 18.

After visiting with Santa, visitors of all ages can hop aboard a real train and take a ride on one of the museum’s authentic, historic electric rail cars. Trains depart at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. for a 50-minute, 10-mile round trip through rural Solano County.

Admission to the museum is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 years and older, and $6 for children 2 through 14. Tickets include museum admission, unlimited train ride, visits with Santa, and free parking. Reservations are not necessary.

The Western Railway museum is open year-round every Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum is located at 5848 State Highway 12 in Solano County, 15 minutes east of Interstate 80, and halfway between Suisun City and Rio Vista.
