A Little Free Library is open to all comers on North Street across from Doctors Hospital of Manteca.

A special celebration was held Saturday morning to acknowledge the completion and installation of Ryan Knight’s Eagle Scout project.

Some 25 members of the community gathered at the site for the short ceremony.

Knight, 13, is going into the eighth grade. With the help of his coordinating team members Knight is requesting more books from the people of Manteca as well as the staff at the hospital to give those interested in new reading material a chance to pick up their choices.

Over 100 hours were put into the project with Knight leading those in his troop with collecting books, along with designing the library borrowing  structure that is permanently located next to the bus loading zone near the hospital.

Friends of the Library members Jeannie Pollard and Toni Raymus noted that there are more than 25,000 Little Free Libraries throughout the country, adding that people are welcome to take a book or leave a book.

Sponsors of the library construction include Toni Raymus, Raymus Homes and chairman of the Doctors Hospital of Manteca board of directors, Jeff Hunt with Hunt Paving, Scott Bundy of Kelly Moore Paint, Tom Jackson with Skylines Roofing and Scott Knight of the Business Development Department at DHM.
