3 WOUNDED IN SAN FRANCISCO SHOOTING: SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco police have arrested three people in connection with an early morning robbery attempt that left three others with gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday on a street in the city's Mission District when police say three men in a car tried to rob the three victims. One of the victims, a 46-year-old man, was shot multiple times in the chest and suffered life-threatening wounds. The two other men, also in their 40s, were shot in the legs.

Officer Gordon Shyy says officers arrested the three occupants of a vehicle suspected in the attack after they led police on a chase and rammed a police car.

HORSE RESCUED BY CRANE AFTER FALLING IN WELL: SAN RAFAEL (AP) —  A horse that fell into a well has been rescued by fire crews, veterinarians and a crane operator at a small California ranch.

The horse named Buddy fell into a brick-lined well on Monday when the cover gave way.

The San Rafael Fire Department responded, but the more than 1,000-pound animal was too heavy to be lifted out by human hands.

So officials called a crane company and veterinarians to help pull the horse out of the well, which contained 20 feet of water.

More than a dozen people gathered to watch as the horse became tired and frustrated. Cheers erupted a couple of hours later when the crane lifted Buddy to safety.
