SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Police canvassed an area near downtown San Francisco on Monday to see if any surveillance cameras captured a drive-by shooting that wounded seven people.

No suspects have been arrested in the shooting that was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday in the city’s rugged Tenderloin area, said Sgt. Danielle Newman, a police spokeswoman.

Witnesses reported an argument among a group of people during an apparent dice game when one of the men involved stepped out of a car with a gun and opened fire, Newman said.

“The guy got out and started shooting. The people started running, they all scattered. I saw people falling,” witness Robert Carroll told KGO-TV.

Seven people were injured as the gunman raced back into a silver sedan and fled, Newman added. The victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were treated and later released early Monday.

“We are very lucky that with so many people struck that we are not investigating a homicide,” Newman said. “The shooting was completely unjustified.”

Police spent Monday searching for witnesses and any surveillance camera footage from area businesses that might help with their investigation, Newman said.
