DAVIS (AP) — Efforts are underway to reach an out-of-court deal over former UC Davis police officer John Pike's worker's compensation claim.
A spokesman for the state Department of Industrial Relations said Friday that a settlement hearing set for Aug. 13 to discuss Pike's claim of psychiatric injury has been canceled.
Peter Melton told the Davis Enterprise the case will not go before a Sacramento judge unless Pike and the university fail to reach an agreement.
Pike gained notoriety when online videos of him pepper-spraying students during a 2011 Occupy protest went viral.
Hackers posted Pike's information online and he received scores of threats.
He was fired a year ago.
