Fire shuts Highway 140 to Yosemite NP

BRICEBURG  (AP) — A California wildfire has closed a main road to Yosemite National Park and prompted an evacuation order for several homes.

The fire that began Sunday afternoon near the unincorporated rural town of Briceburg in Mariposa County. It’s grown to about 2,000 acres Tuesday and is just 10 percent contained.

A section of State Highway 140 is shut. Mandatory evacuations were ordered for several homes along the highway and a campground.

About 1,000 firefighters are battling the blaze, hoping to corral it before the arrival of gusty winds Wednesday that could drive the flames.
