SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities say a man sustained a critical head injury in San Francisco when part of a tree fell on him during a rare rainstorm.

The man was extricated from under the tree in the city’s Mission District about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

City fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said he was taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

Light rain hit the San Francisco Bay Area and firefighters and public works crews were kept busy Thursday with falling trees and branches around the city.

Parts of the tree also fell on overhead transit line wires and a car.
