CORONA TEACHER CHARGED WITH ALLEGED STUDENT SEX: CORONA  (AP) — Prosecutors have filed 16 felony counts against a 31-year-old Riverside County high school teacher suspected of having sex with students on school grounds.

The District Attorney's office said Tuesday that the charges against Summer Michelle Hansen include unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and unlawful oral copulation with a minor.

Hansen, who taught special education classes at Centennial High School, was arrested in June. If convicted she could face up to 13 years in state prison.

Prosecutors say five victims under the age of 18 who allegedly had sexual contact with the teacher on school grounds were identified.

None of the alleged victims were her students.

MAN WITH PHONE SPARKS LONG BEACH CAMPUS LOCKDOWN : LONG BEACH  (AP) — The campus at California State University, Long Beach was briefly locked down after two students on their way to class mistook a cellphone for a weapon.

Campus spokesman Rick Gloady said the campus was locked down for about 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon after a caller mistook a contractor with a cellphone for a man with a weapon.

Gloady says the phone was in a protective case that made it appear a bit larger than a normal phone. The school notified students via Twitter and on its website about an "armed subject" but later said it was a false alarm.

There were no evacuations and classes resumed as scheduled.

Earlier in the day, the school held a safety drill simulating an active shooter on campus.

A SHERIFF'S DEPT LOSES M-16 RIFLE GIVEN BY FEDS: LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say they're embarrassed after an M-16 rifle has gone missing from the department's arms.

Spokesman Steve Whitmore said Tuesday that the department doesn't know how it could have happened, but it's wrong.

In an internal email obtained by the Times, Assistant Sheriff Todd Rogers told department supervisors to turn over every rock to find the weapon.

The weapon was among those the department receives through a program that distributes the federal government's excess property. The program is suspended for the LA department.

Whitmore says the department is drawing up new policies to avoid lost weapons in the future. The program will document every time a person handles a weapon.

EX-MMA STAR ALLEGEDLY BEAT UP WOMAN OVER TEXT: MISSION VIEJO  (AP) — Orange County sheriff's officials say a former mixed martial arts star who was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of domestic violence had been fighting with the alleged victim over a text message.

In a release Tuesday, deputies say 32-year-old Jason "Mayhem" Miller's alleged victim was left with bruises on her limbs and cuts on her face after an argument about a text on his phone.

The alleged abuse occurred Aug. 3 and was reported a week later.

The retired mixed martial arts fighter had competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
