ANAHEIM (AP) — Two people were killed during an apparent street race in Southern California early Saturday, authorities said.

The crash occurred in Anaheim, about 25 miles south of Los Angeles.

The driver lost control of the car, jumped a curb and sheared off a light pole. The car burst into flames before crashing into an apartment building, said police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

The victims’ identities were being withheld pending notification of family members. A third person was seriously injured and was expected to survive.

Witnesses told police the car was involved in a street race with another vehicle, which fled the scene.

The crash caused minor structural damage to the apartment building and displaced three residents.
