RIVERSIDE (AP) — Police say a University of California, Riverside, psychology student may have used her lessons to escape from a kidnapper.

Police said Monday that the woman was forced into a car by a man wearing black Sunday in a parking garage near an off-campus shopping center.

They say she was tied up and driven around town for about 30 minutes. At some point, she was able to free her hands and head.

Police say she eventually convinced the man to let her go, and he drove her back to the parking garage.

Detective Rick Cobb says the woman brought out remorse in the man and Cobb believes lessons from in her psychology classes could have saved her from serious injury.
