STOCKTON – Stockton Civic Theatre will present the Broadway Musical, “I Do! I Do!” beginning Wednesday, March 7, and running through Sunday, April 1.

Based on the play “The Fourposter,” by Jan De Hartog, the book and lyrics are written by Tom Jones, with music by Harvey Schmidt.

Only a two person show, SCT veteran Melissa Esau plays the role of Agnes, with another familiar face, Mike Moon, portraying Michael. Esau has literally grown up on the SCT stage garnering numerous accolades and awards. Moon marks his 19th SCT production with this role and has also earned honors for his performances.

The story of marriage is at the center of this intimate and nostalgic work. The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day and traces their life together over a period of 50 years, until the day they leave their house to the next pair of newlyweds. We watch them go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family, negotiate mid-life crisis, quarrel, reconcile and grow old together, all lovingly to the strains of a tuneful, charming score which includes the standard “My Cup Runneth Over.”

Elaine Saculla is making her directorial debut with this show, after having served as assistant director on other shows and gaining experience in other production roles as well. Assisting her will be Joseph Toon, assistant director; Jim Coleman, musical director; Charlie Kirby, set designer; Jennifer Hastings, choreographer; Terry Smith, technical director; Cathy Hastings, costumes; and Putsy Hong, stage manager.

I Do!” features a $15 per seat preview on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. A reception for opening night patrons catered by Country Catering will be held on Friday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. Performances continue through Sunday, April 1, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
