Vigil set for Friday for murder victim

Gone but not forgotten.

Family and friends will honor the memory of Derrick Joseph Gann with a candlelight vigil on Friday evening in the parking lot of Farmer’s Insurance Agency adjacent to the 7-Eleven Store on Yosemite and Powers avenues.

That’s the very spot where the then 19-year-old Manteca native was slain in the wee morning hours some two years ago.

The candlelight vigil will begin at 8:15 or dusk.

Derrick Gann Sr. indicated earlier this week that the Rev. Wade Williams will be among those honoring the legacy of his late son.

He’s the pastor at Victory Christian Church in Tracy and one of the team chaplains for the Stockton Ports Class-A baseball team.

“Derrick Gann isn’t gone,” Williams said to those in attendance at last year’s candlelight vigil. “We’re standing here as proof that he’s still here in each and every one of us.

“Through him, we can make a difference in our community, and then we can share the life of this young man.”

Friends and family, in addition, will have a chance to remember the life of Derrick Gann.
