Wild, tacky wedding is thespian fundraiser

The Lathrop High Theatre Arts Department is making plans for its biggest fundraiser of the year.
“Wilma and Walter’s Wild & Tacky Wedding” is scheduled for Friday, April 27, at the school cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m.
This is the third year of LHS putting on an interactive wedding for the community. The previous ones were “Chewy and Cha Cha’s Wedding” and “Daisy and Duke’s Wedding.”
Much like those performances, those in attendance will have a chance to interact with an expansive group of fake family members and dysfunctional friends in a controlled improvisation setting akin to a “three-ring circus” wedding.
It’s here that Wilma (the bride) and Walter (the groom) meet at a three-day romantic cruise – reserved for singles who are over 40 – to Alcatraz Island.
Wilma and Walter fall into the spell of the ship’s musical presentation of “Hamilton” decide to get married.
The fun begins with the urgency to put together the wedding with shortage of finance, but still inspired by “Hamilton.”
Wilma privately produces her original play inspired by the Broadway blockbuster, putting together “Washington, the Musical.”
Without much time to prepare for the wedding, the couple decide that the ceremony and reception will take place at the LHS cafeteria.
With that comes the audience – or those looking to attend this one-time performance – who can pay $10 presale at the LHS office or online at www.mantecausd.net/schools/high-school/lathrop.
Tickets at the door are $20.
Space is limited.
Cost also includes pizza and a slice of wedding cake during the faux reception. Side dishes such as cotton candy, popcorn and drinks will be sold separately.
The audience will be encouraged to dance, sing, conga and join in any of the other festivities.
Sponsors are also being sought – a tax-deductible donation of $100 for a single dinner table at the wedding. A check can be made payable before April 20 to: Lathrop High / Theatre Arts Wedding, 647 Spartan Way, Lathrop, CA 95330.
